Dear Donella, Steve, and Jake,
I first met Caitlin on Crate Day, December 4th, 2021, in Berkeley — a holiday I had never heard of before, coming from Mexico. She quickly became my favorite beer pong partner, the only person who could match my energy and my aim.
But Caitlin became so much more than that. She was someone I could debate with about the best water polo teams, talk with about world problems past and present, and then go out dancing with. She became a bright light in my life. I was always amazed by her intellectual curiosity and her ability to light up a room — I always wanted to be around her. She had such a radiant energy, and it was truly a gift to know her. My life will always be touched by her presence.
Her care for others showed in so many ways. After I sustained a traumatic injury to my dominant arm, Caitlin stepped in to support me through my recovery. She offered advice that came straight from her heart, encouraging me to get back to my passions of water polo — and the beer pong table. She even connected me with Monty, who helped me through as well.
Caitlin was a friend, an advocate, a listener, a teacher, a mentor. She deeply cared for those around her, and I will carry her in my heart always.
With so much love,
Dafne Faitelson
Dear Donella, Steve, and Jake,
I was so sorry to hear the sad news of the passing of your lovely daughter/sister Caitlin. My mother told me the sad news today. You are all in my thoughts and prayers at this time.
Best wishes
Claire (Denz youngest sister)
i played water polo at cal the year after caitlin and i stopped after my freshman year like her. i felt really lonely and uncertain coming back to cal without water polo and caitlin welcomed me into her home with open arms. she was a friend to me without pause. she’s so confident and funny & she made me feel like i was gonna be okay after i was uncertain for a while there. she’s a really lovely person and i hope she knows how amazing i (and everyone else) thought she was.
My condolences to the family and friends of Caitlin Mary. I first met Caitlin Mary at orientation for EADA as we were in the same finance program. We immediately clicked. I was an exchange student from the US and she fully understood my culture shock of moving to Barcelona. She always knew how to make me feel seen and known. We decided to ride the bus together to the Collbató campus and talked non stop about what we were going achieve in Barcelona. I have so many memories with her but my favorite was the time we grabbed a glass of wine at a random bar and then headed to Barceloneta beach to watch a drone show. It was the first time I felt like Barcelona was truly home and I had made a genuine friend in a new country. It was an honor to have a friend like Caitlin Mary and I am blessed to have known her.
Dear Donella, Steve and Jake, please accept our sincere condolences. We'll remember Caitlin Mary’s smile, energy and enthusiasm she brought. With love, Stephen, Mikako and Samuel Thomas.
Dear Donella, Steve, Jake and family,
We send our thoughts and prayers to you all at this very sad time. Remembering bright and kind Caitlin Mary and thinking of you all. With love, the Young family, Mary-Anne, Rob, Noni and James.
