Passed peacefully on 18 October, 2025 surrounded by family. Dearly loved mother of Teresa, Robyn and Julie and their respective families. Adored Nana and great Nana.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at Morrisons 220 Universal Drive, Henderson on Thursday 23 October at 10am. This will be followed by light refreshments as we share memories together.

Forever in our hearts.

Sending love and condolences to Teresa, Robyn, Julie and whānau.
You and her beloved grandchildren were the light of Joan’s life. I’m glad you were all there with her and to know she passed peacefully.
The thing I remember most about your Mum and Nana was her strong sense of social justice. Joan was always advocating for people especially those unable to fight for themselves. In the early days when we worked together that was for people who came to the Baptist City Mission. Later she went on to work tirelessly to ensure people with intellectual disabilities were treated fairly and could live their best lives. She was always looking out for people in her congregation too. Back when I lived in Auckland I could see Joan basically ran her local Parish. As a woman she was never credited with the role of being a Priest however she certainly did the job of one and humbly as well!
We sometimes laughed about the fact that despite this she still managed to get things that were important to her done.
Your Mum was a really good woman. She had a great sense of humour and was a lot of fun. I really admired her and know she will be missed by many.
I’m sure there will be lots of stories and tributes at her farewell service. I hope they help with the grief and the healing at this saddest of times. Once again sending you all love.

I’m sorry I can’t not be there to hold your hand Robyn (and family). I’m so incredibly sorry for the passing of your Mum, you Rock, your guiding light. That lump in your throat, they are the words “I love you Mum, but I’m just not ready or prepared to lose you.” Right? Joan, your Mum, will always be with you and you know that. She was Gods right hand Gal for so long, she will be with the Angels, at peace, not gone from your heart or soul.
Celebrate her life today, and may your darling Mum, Mrs Wells (to me) rest easy in Heaven.
Love and hugs from me, also all of my family who send their deepest sympathies to you and your family. Xxx
