Valda passed away on the 22nd September at Waitakere Hospital after a long struggle with COPD, and a short but complicated illness. Special thanks to the staff that took care of her, in her last week, and to her friends who supported her at Waitakere Gardens.
Dearly loved wife of the late Hendrik Hooghiemster, and much-loved mum to Debra, Terry, partner Kevin, and Erin. Beloved Oma to Josina, Loren, Mathew and partners Cambel and Vincent, loved great Oma to Arya, Ruby, Vayda, and Lennox. Always in our hearts.
A service to celebrate Valda's life will be held on Friday 26th September 2025 at 2pm, in the Garden Chapel, 220 Universal Drive, Henderson, followed by a private cremation.

Dear Aunty Valda, I am glad I still had the chance to meet you and some of the family in your retirement home when we visited New Zealand back in February. Even at 90 years old you kept your wits and it was lovely talking to you. Rest in peace, Aunty Valda, and may you be reunited with Uncle Henk. Lots of love to the rest of the family, take care, xx Kirsten

Dear tante Valda,

We only met a couple of times but meeting you and ome Henk and staying with you was always wonderful.
Last time we met was in Australia in 1995, when my husband Bert and I stayed with you, and I was pregnant with our daughter Kirsten. It came full circle when she and her fiance visited you and the family earlier this year.
Thankful that we got to know you,
a last farewell,
Petra, Bert & family from the Netherlands

Dearest Valda
You welcomed me into your dear family back in the old times when I married your loving sister Erica.
My God we had some good times with you much the life and soul of the parties always held at Sherwood Avenue.
I will never forget through the years that have past our BBQ.s and dinners out together which always included the love of your life Henk.
Good times have now passed but memories live forever.
God bless you my sweet sister-in-law may you now rest in peace
Love for ever
Ron
