Fredrick Heidrich Maurice

It was so lovely to be able to join in the funeral of Maurice online. I am truely thankful to God for the technology that we have to do this. Marucie, was more to me that an member of Mountainside, he was a very dear friend. His prayer, regularly ringing me for one other reason except to see how I was, his heart for the Gospel and his ability to think outside the sqaure, were all things that impacted me. I will never forget during the period of lockdowns, how Maurice would regluarly ring me with his cheery voice, just to let me know he was praying for me and the church people. He was always there to listen and to pray with me. No matter what happened Maurice always had my back. Well done today, to all involved in his funeral you hounoured Maurice appropriately, and yet kept the focue on Jesus. Which is exactly as he would have wanted.

Meredith and I join with the Heidrich family in thanking God for the life, service and witness of Maurice. I had the honour of working with Maurice for many years in preparing radio spots for Lutheran Media Ministry’s “Just A Minute”. I will remember Maurice for his dedication, his precision and his love for this ministry. He was indeed a gift to his church. I also appreciated the many times that he and Linda welcomed me into their home for overnight stays while in Auckland. They were gracious hosts. We pray that God’s peace will be with Linda and her family as they mourn their loss and as they rejoice in the sure hope of Jesus’ gift of eternal life.

Maurice had a profound impact on my life even before I was born. He was instrumental in introducing his close friend Charles Haar to the Heidrich family, and his sister Nathalie; and the rest, as they say, is history. While there has been less contact since my leaving for Australia in 1972, uncle Maurice was a source of encouragement and inspiration during my formative years. I remember and treasure those memories. Dear aunt Linda and family, together with you, we thank our gracious and merciful God for the ninety-six years granted Maurice, and for the love, wisdom, faith, and memories he shared with those around him. We give thanks for all the ways he reflected God’s goodness and faithfulness in his life as a husband, father, grandfather, relative, and friend. May the same faithful God now surround you with peace that surpasses all understanding, bless and comfort you in your memories, and keep you in the one true faith that nothing can separate you from God’s love in Christ Jesus our Lord.

We deem it an absolute honor for being associated with Maurice and getting to know him thru church and the Mt Wellington food Bank. When we first came to NZ and made our way to a Lutheran Church, Maurice was one of those who made us feel right at home. As years rolled on he guided us from settling in to serving in various capacities of the church. I am yet to mee someone who is so patient, loving and very very calm and quiet. I have never seen him frazzled, upset or angry. A S M I L E said it all !!!!

Condolences to the family at Maurice's passing.

We were so blessed to have visited Maurice and Linda, and to hear them share their family history and life story with us — it's a memory we will always treasure.

Maurice was so generous with his time and knowledge, patiently teaching us how to use the equipments at church so that we could use it for the Chinese service. His willingness to help in this way has made a lasting difference to our ministry, and we are deeply grateful.

We'll always smile remembering the time Maurice joked about the chiffon cake I made — telling me he'd better hold it tight, or the wind would blow it away! His warmth and sense of humour made every visit a joy.

Maurice, thank you for your kindness, your wisdom, and your friendship. We will miss you dearly, but we take comfort in knowing we will meet again in heaven.
