Michael walked gently with so many over the course of his life and ministry - most notably within the gay community. His advocacy and pastoral care for those living with HIV and AIDS was outstanding. He was willing to stand up and be counted in a context of church silence and even open discrimination, making him a shining light in a sometimes dark and frightening world. Thank you Michael. It was a wonderful experience to share ministry with Michael in Auckland during the 1990's as we sought to acknowledge and celebrate the contribution of gay and lesbian Christians, along with the wide diversity of people of faith. The church has yet to comprehend the sacrifices involved in standing alongside the oppressed, being true to yourself and faithful to your Lord. The world is richer for your time among us.
